Jamaal Knight is a San Diego native, currently working as a Legal Analyst on an IP litigation project with a local wireless technology company. Renewable energy, specifically solar energy, became a field of interest to Mr. Knight while researching the state and local energy regulatory structure in law school. After learning that ‘land requirements’ and ‘access to transmission’ were two of the major impediments to California meeting its renewable energy goals, Mr. Knight began independently researching solar solutions that can be built into a city’s existing infrastructure, including utility-scale, solar projects sited along highways and transit lines. Modeled after successful 'roadside solar' installations in Europe and now other U.S. states, Mr. Knight is looking to forge partnerships to develop a local public/private solar project (tentatively named 'Roadside Sun Diego'). After teaming with the San Diego Renewable Energy Society (SDRES) and members of UCSD’s engineering dept., Mr. Knight is serving as ‘Project Advisor’ to a group of students working on an independent study project collecting preliminary site feasibility data for ‘roadside solar’ applications in San Diego.
Mr. Knight earned his undergraduate degree at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA and a J.D. from the University of San Diego, School of Law.
